Post-Surgery Hair Transplant Timeline
Day 2: Some pain or discomfort is normal during the first couple of days. On the day after surgery, we will check the surgical area, remove the dressing, and shampoo your hair.
Days 3–14: You can start washing your hair at home from Day 3. Do not rub the transplanted area for 2 weeks. After applying the recommended bubble shampoo, leave it on for 2–3 minutes before rinsing. You may resume normal hair washing after 2 weeks.
Days 10–14: Sutures from the donor area will be removed during this period. (This applies only to FUT patients who did not receive dissolvable stitches.)
Days 14–30: About 70–80% of the transplanted hairs will fall out, often together with some of your existing hairs. This is normal. New hair growth typically begins 3–5 months after surgery.
1–3 Months: You may experience folliculitis (small pimples or irritation) in the surgical area before hair growth begins. In most cases, applying an antibiotic ointment (such as Fucidin or Madecassol cream) will resolve the issue.
3–6 Months: This is the period when patients worry most. Many hairs will go through “shock loss,” but new hairs will also begin to grow, usually about 1 cm per month. Please be patient, as it takes time before noticeable results appear.
10 Months: Hair growth will be active in the transplanted area. With additional hair loss treatments, the number of hairs and their thickness can continue to improve during this period.
Note: It is normal for your hair to look thinner or even worse than before during the first 3–6 months. From Month 4 onward, new hairs will slowly grow in. The full results can be expected about 1 year after surgery.
